Commissioned art is equal parts thrilling and terrifying. This project was no exception. Setting the expectations, creating the art and then delivering it. DELIVERING IT - that’s where the magic happens. I’ve spent so much time analyzing, critiquing, changing, adjusting, starting over, adding more, editing back, and then in a split second the client sees it for the first time. I love to experiment and play through art. Lately, I have been experimenting with different shaped paper. It is so easy for children to play and experiment. When was the last time you did something for the sole purpose of play? Ray Bradbury once wrote that, “life is trying things to see if they work.” Ralph Waldo Emerson similarly wrote that, “All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.”

The immeasurable sense of peace that we feel around water is our "blue mind"—a chance to escape the hyper-connected, over-stimulated state of modern day life, in favor of a rare moment of solitude. #lakelife #solitude #commission #abstractart

HELLO! Are you still following? Sorry I’ve been a little MIA lately. I recently took a position as a designer for an interior design firm. I feel incredibly lucky to work with an incredibly talented group of women @varadesign. The icing on the cake is that the firm is right here in @cityofaurorail . It has always been a dream of mine to make my own city better. And now I get to do just that (and other amazing projects too)! Although, my new position has taken a lot of my bandwidth I have still been creating art in my free time. Art = Therapy I am hoping to have my website updated within the next week to show all the recent pieces available. Hi Friends! I have been hosting virtual ink classes over the last year. I have hosted hundreds of events for people all over the country - connecting coworker, families, and friends through art. I have enjoyed every minute of it. I will continue to offer online events but I would like to start doing them IN PERSON - woah. This fresh and fluid painting style involves fun elements like Yupo paper, paint brushes, and spray misters, all of which provide a playful approach that makes it accessible for every age and stage. I offer both private and public classes where I guide individuals through the process at a relaxed pace, ensuring that even the most novice painter will feel comfortable and engaged. And with every tool thoughtfully provided before class, it makes for the perfect gift or addition to every celebration. I have been insanely busy. I needed a day to step back and paint something just for fun.

When I feel overwhelmed with tasks and “to do” lists, I try to refocus and enjoy the process. I have a tendency to look to ahead and try to get to the end as fast as I can. Art and Design are some of the only times where the process is my favorite part. It reminds me that I need to apply this mental practice to other parts of my life. Maybe my next tattoo should be process. I already have patience and perspective tattooed to my wrists as reminders. What do you need tattooed to your wrists? I hosted a virtual alcohol ink event tonight and found myself getting lost in the medium. It reminded me of why I started these classes - state of flow. In positive psychology, a flow state, also known colloquially as being in the zone, is the mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by the complete absorption in what one does, and a resulting transformation in one's sense of time. #stateofflow #alcoholinkart #virtualevent

Rebranding in the works! I’m am trying to move away from the pink and blue logo to something that is more traditionally gender neutral. So far, my classes have been heavily attended by women. I want to challenge the idea that this type of event is for women only - it is not. Relaxing and getting into a state of flow through art is for EVERYONE. Every single event I have hosted has had a party crasher - a child, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, wife, fiancé, mom, dad, and lots of dogs & cats. I hosted my first #alcoholink #artflowexperience with a group of kids this weekend. It was so fun! It was a group of 9 year old girls for one of their birthdays. They absolutely blew me away with their imaginations and artwork. They reminded me of how easily children get into a state of flow and play. As adults it takes a little more work and intention but absolutely possible and necessary. They also reminded me how beautiful the accidents and process can be. They loved the way the surface under their paintings looked. It made me stop, think, and reflect. I lifted mine and they were totally right - underneath my paper looked absolutely beautiful.
